I am directed to acknowledge the receipt of Sir E. Gorst's letter of the 21st August forwarding cor- respondence regarding the circulation of the British
dollar in China, and the contingency of its being superseded by the Mexican dollar, and suggesting that the Government of India should be urged to reconsider their recent decision to charge a seignorage of 2 per cent for the coinage of British dollars at the Indian
Mints.
